Alex Conte is a Reader in Human Rights at Sussex Law School. He is also Director of the Sussex Centre for Human Rights Research.
His research and teaching focus on global security and human rights, detention and fair trial and the interface between international human rights and humanitarian law.
Dr Conte was previously Director of the International Law and Protection Programmes at the International Commission of Jurists, an NGO dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights through the rule of law. He was also a consultant to the UN and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and has led and participated in the training of judges, diplomats, practitioners, civil society and trial observers.
