Senior Law and Policy Adviser, ICJ Global Redress and Accountability Initiative

Alex Conte is a senior law and policy adviser at the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), an NGO dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights through the rule of law.

Alex leads the ICJ’s Global Redress and Accountability Initiative, a global Initiative integrated amongst the regional and thematic programmes of the ICJ aimed at enhancing the accountability of perpetrators of gross human rights violations and redress for victims of such violations through the law, justice institutions and justice actors.

He was previously Reader in Human Rights at Sussex Law School and Director of the Sussex Centre for Human Rights Research. He was also Director of the International Law and Protection Programmes at the ICJ and a consultant to the UN and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and has led and participated in the training of judges, diplomats, practitioners, civil society and trial observers.
