International Humanitarian Law / International Human Rights Law / UN Human Rights Mechanisms / Public International Law / Inter-American Human Rights System
is an intern at the Geneva Human Rights Platform and an LLM candidate at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. He provides research support to the Platform’s projects, with focus on the UN Human Rights Council efficiency process and the Council’s 2021-2026 review. He also assists the team in the organization of different events.
Julio has experience with research on both international human rights law and international humanitarian law, especially on the interplay between these two branches at the Inter-American and UN human rights systems. He has previously worked as a research assistant at the Center for Law, Globalization and Development in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and as a research assistant at the Chair for Public Law and Public International Law at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen, Germany. He also took part in several moot court competitions, such as Jean Pictet, Nuremberg and Jessup. He currently works as an IHL consultant at UFRGS IHL Clinic, advising the Clinic’s participation as amicus curiae before international and Brazilian courts and coaching teams taking part in IHL competitions.
Julio holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), cum laude, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), with inter-university exchange program at the Justus Liebig University (Germany).
