Global Focal Point on Environmental Justice with the United Nations Development Programme

Seán O’Connell is Global Focal Point on Environmental Justice with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Seán provides support to UNDP Country Offices on environmental justice development programming, which includes the integration of the environment into the work of justice and rule of law actors, the protection of the environment in the context of business activity and advancing the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.

Seán has worked with UNDP Country Offices in Vietnam and Lao PDR on human rights, rule of law, access to justice and responsible business practice. He was previously lead human rights officer for Ireland’s first National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights with the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, and legal researcher with the Department of Justice of Ireland.

Seán has an LLM in Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham and is an attorney at the New York State Bar.

Participants in this training course, made of two modules, will examine the major international and regional instruments for the promotion of human rights and the environment, familiarizing themselves with the respective implementation and enforcement mechanisms.
