Independent Consultant and Permanent Representative of Earthjustice in Geneva

Yves Lador works as an independent consultant, and has been mandated by Earthjustice for its representation to the UN in Geneva since 1991. His work focuses on norms and mechanisms linking human rights and the environment, including issues such as: the right to a healthy and sustainable environment, the right to water and sanitation, the right not be exposed to toxic substances and pollution, human rights and climate change, procedural environmental rights, the protection of environmental defenders, the role of civil society, and human rights education and training).

He has been involved in the negotiation of several environmental rights instruments and compliance mechanisms, and conducted studies and training sessions and contributed to the work of civil society organisations. He has published articles on the work of UN bodies, on human rights and the environment and on human rights education and training. He has also carried out mandates for inter-governmental institutions such as the Council of Europe, the Office of the UN High Commissonner on Human Rights and the UN Economic Commission for Europe.

Yves holds a degree from the Geneva Graduate Institute of Development Studies, and was one of the civil society representatives elected to the Geneva Constitutional Assembly (2008-2012), which drafted the new Constitution of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, adopted by a popular vote in 2012.
