In this interview, Annabelle Gagnon-Bischoff, currently enrolled in the LLM in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, tells us about the programme and life in Geneva.

Before studying at the Geneva Academy, Annabelle obtained a LLL and an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences in International Development and Globalization at the University of Ottawa. She alsosuccessfully completed the examination for the Québec Bar in May 2016.

Does the programme respond to your expectations?

I think the LLM at the Geneva Academy is an incredible opportunity to learn about humanitarian law, international criminal law and human rights, being challenged daily by professors who are internationally renowned experts. I am convinced that the knowledge and competencies acquired in this dynamic academic environment will help in my career to make a contribution to international justice.

How is life in Geneva?

Geneva is an ideal place to be for anyone passionate about international issues, either law, international relations or social sciences. Here, you are spoilt for choice with activities, such as numerous conferences organized weekly, for example a lecture by Ban Ki-moon reflecting on his time in office as the UN Secretary-General. So far I also personally attended sessions of the UN Human Rights Committee and UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on reviews of Canada and Colombia State Reports.

Why did you choose to be photographed in front of the Pointe de la Jonction?

I really enjoy going to the Pointe de la Jonction because it is an enchanting place right in the middle of the city. It is a great place to take a break from studying and go for a walk or a swim in summer.
